Revolving Stage Theatre

REVOLVING THEATRE STAGE – on the stage

The sound of the revolving platform is recorded from a position on top of the moving structure. It is powered by an electrical motor and runs on a track below. The platform, which is 10 metres in radius, is part of the regular stage floor of the theatre hall in Delavski Dom Trbovlje Cultural Centre and is considered one of the largest revolving stages in Slovenia.
It was designed in 1956 by Franc Šoba and the engineer Stane Hercog, whilst the components were manufactured and assembled by the local equipment and machine manufacturer Strojna Tovarna, Trbovlje. At the time it was first such stage not only in Slovenia, but in the whole of what was then Yugoslavia. It is still in excellent condition but hasn't seen much use in theatre performances and other events over the recent years due to the advancement of other modern stage machinery.
Trbovlje is the hometown of the legendary Slovenian music group Laibach, who regularly practice, as well as perform, on this stage.
