Föri

Föri, a ferry operating across the River Aura in Turku, is the oldest vehicle still in daily operation in Finland. It was completed in 1903.

The ferry was built for the employees of the Barker factory who needed to get quickly across the river.

The ferry was originally driven with steam engines. In the 1950’s the diesel motors replaced the steam powered ones and in 2017 the diesel engines that consumed over 8000 litres of fuel, were replaced by electric engines.

Föri operates almost throughout the year. During really cold winters, if the depth of the ice is over 30c, an ice bridge is used for the route.
