Finnish Sauna Part V: Bath Broom Vasta

Finnish bath broom vasta (or vihta depending on the dialect) is a bundle made of birch twigs. It is a fundamental part of the traditional sauna culture in Finland.

When hit against the skin vasta removes dead skin and helps to accelerate metabolism and increase blood flow.

It is also believed that the etheric oil in birch leaves helps to prevent inflammations and relieve muscle and joint pain.
