LOADING THE CART AND DISCHARGING ORE IN THE SHAFT
Ore from the blind shafts was discharged into the minecarts by way of dischargers, which were constructed at the top and the lower part of the blind shafts. Their construction was a rather demanding task. The way was cleared by moving the lever, and ore or backfill material was dumped into the minecarts. When the cart was full, the miner moved the lever in the opposite direction, and the discharger closed. Then the ore was hauled from the blind shafts to the main assembly shaft from where it was hoisted to the surface. During the mine closure works, the discharger was used for discharging backfill material.

The heritage of Idrija inscribed on UNESCO`s World Heritage List comprises the heritage of the mine and mining activities in the broadest sense of the world: the mercury ore deposit, underground shafts and galleries, mine entrance buildings, administrative buildings, smelting plant, mercury and wheat storehouses, residental houses, school buildings, churches, and the paths along which mercury was transported abroad.
