Rod cutter
The rod cutter from the 1920s cuts approximately 3m long steel rods into accurately dimensioned pieces, called “pins” which can then be bent into chain links.
A worker places the steel rods into position and activates a lever which presses the rods against the rotating blades for the cut.
The sound of this machine consists of the rotating blades, the cutting of the steel rods as well as the “pins” landing in a collecting box.
Today this machine is in use exclusively for show purposes. It is currently displayed in the Chain Forge Museum in Fröndenberg (Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia), where the manual and industrial manufacturing of chains are exhibited.
