Container Terminal at the Port of Dortmund
The sound was recorded at the Port of Dortmund. Dortmund's port which terminates the Dortmund-Ems Canal connecting Dortmund to the North Sea was built in 1895 and opened 1899. First it was mainly used for the import and export of wheat, coal and ore. Today Dortmund Port is the biggest European canal port with 10 docks and a pier length of 11km.
One can hear the sounds of the transport of containers by 3 gantry cranes of 60 tonnes and their acoustic start signals. The terminal area is 60.000 sqm with 6.000 TEU depot capacities.
