Paatela Lock of the Keitele Canal
Keitele canal connects two biggest lakes in Central Finland, Lake Päijänne and Lake Keitele. The canal route is over 45 kilometres long and the height difference is 21 metres. It creates a water route that is altogether 400 kilometres long.
In the canal route there are five different service locks and it connects six lakes together. This recording was made at the Paatela lock in Äänekoski.
The canal was built by Soviet Union as a settlement for bilateral trade debts between Finland and the Soviet Union.
