Saw and Theremin Performance
Saw & Theremin duo performing at Tekotaiteellisen paskan festivaali (roughly translatable to Festival of Pseudo-artistic Crap). The event is part of traditional Yläkaupungin yö city festival in Jyväskylä.
In the audio (and in the video) you can hear traditional saw playing combined with theremin and pre-recorded soundscapes.
Musical saw is usually played with a violin or a cello bow to produce ethereal glissando sounds.
Theremin is an electronic instrument which was invented by a Soviet inventor Léon Theremin in 1920. You play the instrument without physically touching it. The instrument has two metal antennas attached to oscillators and the operator moves his/her hands closer and further from the antennas to control the pitch and the volume of the sound.
