Sparkling wine –opening, pouring and making a toast
Until the second half of the 20th century, the celebration of New Year's Eve wasn't that important for most Slovenian families. It was the change of political system after World War Two and the political propaganda that attempted to diminish the importance of Christmas by promoting New Year's Eve instead that gradually enhanced this celebration. This contributed to the emergence of new traditions and customs. One of them is making a toast with sparkling wine as midnight chimes.
