The 4ND tram – the doors
The sound of the door opening and closing in a 4ND type tram trailer.
4ND trams are a modernised version of the earlier ND. ND stands for standard gauge, trailer (the acronym comes from the Polish words). The design of ND trailers was based on the design of the German Kriegsstraßenbahnwagen (KSW) - the "wartime" tram with a simplified construction, adapted to production and operation in war conditions. ND trailers differed from N type cars only in the absence of propulsion systems.
The tram belongs to Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne S.A. public transport company in Krakow and during the recording it was being exhibited at the Museum of Urban Engineering. The car is in operation and is occasionally used in the streets of Krakow. The 4ND type tramcar recordings were used in the audiovisual installation "The Ghost Tram" under the "Sounds of Changes" project.
